Throughout his time here, Chief Ricardi has climbed his way through the ranks from police officer to being promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant and eventually appointed as Chief of Police. He has has worn many hats through out his time here including working as the department’s lead investigator as well as overseeing the Eastern Hampden County Narcotics Task force. He has brought this department into the 21st Century by adding all of today’s modern day technological advances in police equipment and operating systems.

Chief Ricardi has dedicated the better part of his life serving and protecting others. We here at the Southwick Police Department wish him well in his retirement as it is more than well deserved.

. Farewell Message from Chief David A. Ricardi.

“It is with heavy heart that I write this Farewell Message to the Citizens of Southwick, the employees of the Town, the men and women both civilian and sworn members of the Southwick Police Department. I would like to thank all of these individuals for their support for over three decades. It was also truly a pleasure to work with the Select Board and all of the committees associated with accomplishing the goals of this Department.
When I retire at the end of this month, I will have served nearly forty (40) years in Law Enforcement. As I have previously indicated during my Law Enforcement career I had the privilege of serving the citizens of Southwick for over thirty (30) years. In those years I was fortunate to make a great deal of friends who I will never forget.
I have on many occasions stated publicly that I was blessed to work with the phenomenal Officers, Dispatchers and Staff members of this Department. These individuals are not only dedicated to their profession but also to the well-being, safety, and prosperity of this Town. We are fortunate to have these professionals serving our community.
During my tenure as the Chief of Police, I am proud to note that we accomplished many progressive goals for the Community and Department. The number of our accomplishments are too vast to list. A few highlights that stand out in my mind include: The training of our Officers in administering Narcan, Active Shooter familiarization and training for our Officers and School Administration, training our officers in the proper use of a Taser, the resurrection of the Citizen Police Academy and the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) programs, adding a School Resource Officer (SRO) to our staffing level, updating the firearms (pistols, rifles & shotguns) used by our officers, and by adding tactical vests and helmets to the items carried in our cruisers, continuous updating of the medical supplies we use on a daily basis, continuous training on the Defibrillators we carry in our cruisers, and continuing education for the Senior Citizens on topic that are of a concern for them. Last but not least, we also were able to fund another K-9 with the financial assistance from many.
Serving the Town of Southwick and working with the members of the Police Department was a life changing experience. I feel I am a better person for having the opportunity to serve this community. Thank you all.”

Chief David A. Ricardi.
